The issue being addressed with this blog is my inefficiency in my daily tasks, and the occasional disconnect between them and my goals. This is a compounding effect - the inefficiency leads to stress and lack of time, which does not leave me the mental energy to sharpen my goals.
The inefficiency presents itself in a few ways - poor planning, poor quality work, unsafe work, and slow work. Attributes of the inefficiency are forgetfulness, thoughtlessness, inability to see simple problems, missing the big picture, poor time management, etc. Increasing the planning phase will improve the other factors, but increasing it too much can make the work take too long, so we must optimize these factors. That entails listing them in terms of importance, then analyzing them to see how they can be improved.
Ultimately, the product of this blog will be a set of rules which, when applied, result in the optimization of the said factors. These rules will be simple and elegant so they can be implemented and remembered easily. They will also be broad enough to apply in many conditions which can change throughout life. Their applicability will be determined by their elegance (simplicity combined with wide application).
I am making this a blog (and not simply a file on my computer) because when I am writing it as part of the public record, I feel more of a responsibility to be correct, clear, and concise, which I think helps bring out the right answers. Also, at some point I might like to hear the critique and experiences of others.
I have found that in most other areas of my life, if I look critically at the problems at hand most can be solved with time and effort. It seems ridiculous that this problem, one so fundamentally connected to everything else that I do, should not receive the same treatment. Wish me luck -
